o/t/d: 31 Dec 1949....oooh 70 years ago . The lads gain a 2-0 win at home to Bolton in front of 38,315 fans at Roker. Our goals came late in the day from Shack (84 mins) and Dickie Davis on 90 mins. It seems that Tommy Reynolds was star of the show returning from " injury" although not fully recovered from suffering with "boils" ……...

We are all aware of Rob's connection to the club as well as his renowned input into the matchday program. So, it was lovely to see a smashing article in last nights program (Tranmere) about Arthur.....
Thank you Rob Mason content media

o/t/d: 15 Oct 1949, derby day 70 years ago, the lads earn a hard fought 2-2 up the road in front of 57,999 fans. Ncle go 2-0 up but Arthur who was causing them problems pulls up with a pulled muscle and is put out to hobble on the wing. Tommy Wright pulls a goal back just on half time. Arthur doesn't appear for the 2nd half but the 10 men equalise thro Dickie Davis & hold on for a point....

the lads draw 1-1 away to league leaders Bolton in front of 43, 887 fans. Arthur seems to have had an uncertain first 10 mins giving Bolton the chance to take the lead but he then grabs the equaliser 5 mins later and didn't look back after that. So sad though to see these two teams where they are now

70 years ago today, 5th March 1949 it's derby day at St James. The lads unluckily lose 2-1 in front of 58,250 fans. A cracking match was played in windy, sleet conditions and we go in 1 up at half time thanks to a Ronnie Turnbull goal. The game changes however in the 46th minute when our centre half Billy Walsh is carried off....no subs in those days, so we play the second half with 10 men. Goals from Milburn & Robledo win the game for the hosts but even with 10 men SAFC played "magnificently" and despite, Shackleton, Broadis & Watson getting rave reviews, the biggest bouquet goes to man of the match; Arthur Wright
