SUNDERLAND 0 LEEDS UNITED 0
Attendance 23,000
Sunderland :-- Mapson, Feenan, Hall, Johnston, Lockie, Wright, Spuhler, Carter, Gurney, Gallacher, Burbanks..
Leeds United;- Twoomey, Milburn, Sproston, Makinson, Kane, Browne, Armes, Ainsley, Hodgson, Stephenson, Buckley.
With both the regular wing halves absent through injury Sunderland lacked their customary aggressiveness in this game. Thomson and Hastings are two of the greatest attacking middle men in the game and the absence of both undoubtedly lost the wearsiders a point. Johnston it was plain to see was uncomfortable on the right flank and league debutant Wright on the left, a grand footballer in the making, was unused to the pace as was only to be expected. Sunderland played the more polished football but without the necessary snap in front of goal. Leeds also finished weakly.
